St. Joseph Church Mendham Wedding & Brooklake Country Club Reception

Morgan & Joe

Morgan and Joe’s St. Joseph Church Mendham wedding was a classic New Jersey Catholic ceremony followed by a reception at Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, and the whole day felt exactly like the two of them: funny, loving and completely relaxed. With an 18-person bridal party, 200 guests, a live band and a cigar bar on the patio, our photo and video team followed the day from a hotel suite in Morristown to the last song on the dance floor, with drone footage over the golf course for their wedding film.

From Friends to Forever

Morgan and Joe met through a mutual friend and stayed just friends for a long time before it turned into a crush. That easy friendship is still at the center of everything. When we asked how they’d describe their relationship, the answer was simple: funny, loving, relaxed.

The proposal proved it. One morning Joe kept trying to get Morgan up and out of the house, and she wasn’t having it. As far as she knew, they had no plans, and she was still in her pajamas, retainer and all. Then Joe got down on one knee in their bedroom with a ring, and suddenly she was very ready to start the day. He followed it with a surprise trip to a vineyard, where her whole family was waiting to celebrate.

So when they told us what they wanted from their photos and film, it made perfect sense: the silly side, the very deep love underneath it, and all of their friends and family having a great time. This was going to be a day about people and real moments, not stiff poses.

Getting Ready at The Westin Governor Morris

The day started at The Westin Governor Morris in Morristown. We began with Morgan’s details while the suite was still calm: the invitation, her flowers, rings, shoes, jewelry and the dress hanging in the light. Then came our favorite nod to the proposal: Morgan and her bridesmaids in matching PJs before everyone changed into their dresses.

With 18 adults in the bridal party, we split the team. One photographer stayed with Joe and the groomsmen for his details, from the tie and shoes to the jacket and cufflinks, so neither side of the story was rushed. Two coordinated teams cover both getting-ready rooms at the same time, and the gallery still reads as one story.

The St. Joseph Church Mendham Wedding Ceremony

Morgan and Joe were married at St. Joseph Church in Mendham, surrounded by the families who raised them. Our team arrived early to set up before guests filled the pews, and video coverage began with the ceremony. In a church, setup is everything. Cameras need to be in place before the processional so we never block the aisle, and dedicated audio puts the vows and readings into the film instead of leaving them to room echo. We always confirm each parish’s photo and video guidelines ahead of time, so the ceremony stays reverent and nothing important is missed.

Afterward, the newlyweds stepped away to the parish chapel for a quiet moment together, then came back to the altar for portraits with their immediate families before everyone gathered outside for the church exit. Doing family formals at the altar right after a St. Joseph Church Mendham wedding ceremony, while everyone is already in one place, is one of the easiest ways to protect cocktail-hour time later.

Portraits at Brooklake Country Club

From Mendham, the couple headed to Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park. They chose Brooklake for two reasons: the golf course makes a beautiful backdrop, and they loved the big patio. Both earned a place in the gallery.

We photographed the full bridal party first, while everyone was fresh and together, then sent the group into cocktail hour and took Morgan and Joe out on their own across the grounds. With a large bridal party, that order matters. Eighteen people move slower than two, so we photograph the group first and give the couple the unhurried time. Morgan and Joe then joined their guests for the last part of cocktail hour, so they didn’t miss the party they had planned for.

A Band, a Cigar Bar and 200 of Their Favorite People

Asked what she was most looking forward to, Morgan didn’t name a detail or a dress. She said having all of their favorite people in one room. Before the doors opened, we photographed the ballroom exactly as it was designed, every table set and untouched, because that’s the only moment it looks that way.

Then the room filled up. Grand entrance, first dances, speeches, and a live band that kept the dance floor full. Out on the patio, the cigar bar gave guests a place to step outside and catch up, and it gave us some of the most relaxed candids of the night. [CONFIRM: We built in a short window after the formalities to take Morgan and Joe outside for golden-hour portraits over the golf course. Delete this sentence if the sunset portraits didn’t happen.]

The cake cutting was kept quiet and simple so the dancing never stopped. We also made a point of photographing guests at their tables, not just on the dance floor. The people sitting and talking are part of the story too, and they’re often the faces a couple most wants to see years later. Video covered the day from the ceremony through the cake cutting, and photography stayed until the very last song.

Next up for the newlyweds: a coastal minimoon in Rhode Island, perfectly timed, since they’ll be back up there the following weekend for another wedding.

Planning a Church Ceremony with a Brooklake Country Club Reception

If you’re planning a Catholic ceremony in Morris County with a reception at Brooklake, here’s what made Morgan and Joe’s day flow:

  • Build in travel time. Plan about half an hour between the church exit and your first portraits at Brooklake, plus a small buffer for greeting guests outside the church.
  • Do family formals at the altar. Immediate family is already there, and it frees your cocktail hour for the bridal party and couple portraits.
  • Use cocktail hour wisely. Bridal party first, couple second, then join your guests before dinner.
  • Photograph the ballroom before the doors open. It’s the only time your décor is untouched.
  • Plan for golden hour. Late-summer sunsets land during the reception, so leave a short window after the formalities.
  • Split the team for big bridal parties. Two coordinated teams cover two getting-ready locations without anyone waiting.
  • Match coverage hours to your day. Photography through the last song and video through the key moments, plus drone over the golf course, gave Morgan and Joe complete coverage without paying for hours they didn’t need.

FAQ

How much time should we plan between a church ceremony in Mendham and a reception at Brooklake Country Club? For Morgan and Joe, about half an hour between the church exit and the first portraits at Brooklake worked well. Leave a little extra time for greeting guests outside the church.

Where are the best portrait spots at Brooklake Country Club? The golf course and the large patio are the standouts, and both work beautifully at sunset. We photograph the bridal party first and then take the couple out on their own during cocktail hour.

Can we take family photos at the church? Yes. Taking immediate family portraits at the altar right after the ceremony is the most efficient option. We confirm each parish’s photography and video guidelines in advance.

Do we need two photographers for a large bridal party? With a big bridal party or two getting-ready locations, two coordinated photographers mean both sides are covered at the same time and no one waits.

Can you include drone footage at Brooklake Country Club? Yes. Drone coverage over the golf course was part of Morgan and Joe’s wedding film, weather permitting.
