Mohawk River Country Club Wedding in Rexford, NY

Ashley & Hunter

October 2, 2026 | Rexford, NY | Weddings

Ashley and Hunter's Mohawk River Country Club wedding was a fall celebration in Rexford, New York, on October 2, 2026. The whole day took place on one property, from getting ready to the last dance. MC Productions traveled from New Jersey to photograph it: a 22-person bridal party, portraits all around the grounds from the rock waterfall to the garden arch, and a reception built around the two things the couple cared about most, good food and dancing.

From Coworkers to a State Park Proposal

Ashley and Hunter met at work in the winter of 2021. Ashley describes them as fun and easygoing, and says they almost never have a problem with each other. Hunter proposed at a state park. Ashley thought they were there to take engagement photos for friends, but the proposal had been the plan all along. As photographers, we appreciate a good cover story.

Why They Chose Mohawk River Country Club

The couple picked the venue for three reasons: the ceremony location, the bridal suite and the main ballroom. The club sits on more than 120 acres along the Mohawk River in Saratoga County, with an 18-hole golf course, gardens, a pond with a rock waterfall and mature trees, so there are many portrait backdrops a short walk from the ballroom. If you're comparing country club venues, see our Brooklake Country Club wedding in Florham Park, NJ.

The colors were classic fall. Bridesmaids wore burgundy, terracotta, light sage and champagne, with wood-flower bouquets in the same tones. Ashley carried a white rose bouquet, and white, blush and burgundy flowers topped the wooden ceremony arch.

Getting Ready at the Club

Ashley and Hunter both got ready at the club, so no time was lost to travel. The bridesmaids started in matching rust-brown rompers before changing into their dresses. Ashley's mom helped with the final touches, and her dad had his first look in the bridal suite before the ceremony.

In the groom's suite, Hunter and his groomsmen got dressed between rounds of pool. Hunter had his own first look with his mom.

The couple chose not to see each other before the ceremony. When couples skip a first look, we plan parent first looks and separate bride-side and groom-side portraits earlier in the day. That keeps the aisle moment for the ceremony and still gets most bridal party photos done before guests arrive.

Portraits Around the Grounds

With no first look, we photographed each side separately before guests arrived. Hunter and his nine groomsmen took over the stone footbridge by the chateau and the lawn beside the pond. Ashley and her bridesmaids used the rock waterfall, the hydrangea-lined ceremony aisle and the garden arch. We also flew our drone over the waterfall for an overhead view of the bridal party, an angle you can't get from the ground.

The Ceremony

Guests arrived at 4:00, and the ceremony began at 4:30 under the wooden floral arch beside the pond, with a violinist playing. Ashley's favorite memory of the day was seeing Hunter for the first time as she walked down the aisle. She told us she was "so nervous but so so excited."

In a short ceremony, his reaction, her walk and the parents' faces all happen within seconds. We plan camera positions before it starts so each of those moments is covered. Right after the recessional, the couple signed their marriage license, and we went straight into portraits.

Family, Bridal Party and Couple Portraits

The bridal party had 18 adults and four children, two junior bridesmaids and two flower girls. With a long family list on top of that, portraits needed a plan. We set the family groupings with Ashley ahead of time and worked through more than 20 of them in about 20 minutes, at the altar and outdoors.

Next came one large photo of the full bridal party. After that, we kept 15 minutes for just the two of them at the garden arch and on the waterfall, finishing with drone portraits in the late-afternoon light. On a day this full, that protected time often gives couples their favorite portraits.

A Reception Built for Food and Dancing

When we asked Ashley what mattered most, she said it was "to be able to eat good food and dance the night away." During cocktail hour, from 5:00 to 6:00, we photographed the ballroom before guests came in: the tablescapes, centerpieces, sweetheart table and the cake, made by a family friend.

From 6:00 to 10:00, the night moved through entrances, six speeches and the formal dances. There was the first dance, Ashley with her grandfather, Ashley with her dad and Hunter with his mom. The DJ announced table photos, and the couple visited all 14 tables so every guest got a photo with them. Guests also left voice messages on an audio guestbook.

At 9:10, Ashley and her dad followed the cake cutting with a hip-hop father-daughter dance. Moments like that are why we photograph the guests watching, not only the dancers. Next stop for the newlyweds: Sandals Dunn's River in Jamaica.

Photography Tips for a Mohawk River Country Club Wedding

Here is what we learned planning this day, for couples looking at the same venue:

  • One property, no travel time. Getting ready, the ceremony, cocktail hour and the reception all happen at the club. The time other weddings spend driving goes to portraits instead.
  • No first look? Split portraits earlier. Plan bride-side and groom-side photos in separate windows before the ceremony, and keep the couple apart from about 3:15 on.
  • Send your family list early. A long list goes quickly when it is written in order before the day. We talk through family dynamics privately on the planning call so no one is put on the spot.
  • Use the grounds. The rock waterfall, the stone footbridge, the gardens and the hydrangea-lined aisle give you very different portraits within a few minutes' walk. Keep an indoor plan in case of rain.
  • Save a few minutes for the drone. The waterfall and pond look their best from above, especially with the whole bridal party on the rocks.
  • Photograph the room before guests walk in. Cocktail hour is the window to capture the ballroom fully set and untouched.
  • Plan table photos for a big guest list. When the DJ announces them, the couple gets every table without stopping the party.

Mohawk River Country Club Wedding FAQ

Can you get ready and have the ceremony at Mohawk River Country Club?

Yes. Ashley and Hunter used the bridal suite and groom's suite, held the ceremony on site and had the reception in the ballroom. With nothing to drive between, more of the day goes to photos.

Where are the best photo spots at Mohawk River Country Club?

The rock waterfall and pond, the stone footbridge by the chateau, the gardens and lawns, and the hydrangea-lined ceremony aisle all work well for portraits, and all are close to the ballroom. Plan an indoor option in case of rain.

How long do family photos take with a large bridal party?

With a written list sent ahead, we photographed more than 20 family groupings in about 20 minutes. The full bridal party photo and 15 minutes of couple portraits came right after.

Do we need a first look at Mohawk River Country Club?

No. Without one, we photograph the bride's side and the groom's side in separate windows before the ceremony, then do family and couple portraits during cocktail hour.

Does MC Productions travel to Rexford and the Capital Region?

Yes. MC Productions is based in Roselle Park, NJ, and photographs and films weddings across New York State, including Saratoga County. Travel is quoted with your package.
