Hudson House Wedding Photographer & Videographer in Jersey City, NJ

Hudson House by Landmark · Port Liberté, Jersey City

Skyline portraits, Grand Ballroom receptions and cinematic films at Hudson House, by a team that plans your day around the light on the water.

A note from Ivone

I'm Ivone. With my husband Mario and our team, we've photographed and filmed many celebrations at Hudson House, and they all taught us the same thing: the skyline is only as good as the timing.

— Ivone & Mario

We plan your portraits around your date’s sunset, so the city glows gold behind you and then lights up at blue hour. We know the wind that comes off the water and how to make it work for your veil. Photo and film come from one coordinated team, so nothing on your day competes for your attention.

The Film

Hudson House Wedding Videographer: Watch Our Wedding Films

Two of our wedding films, from the bridal suite to the last dance. A film keeps what photographs can’t: your vows in your own voices, the toasts, the music the night was built around. See more of our wedding films.

Hudson House Wedding Photography, From Getting Ready to the Last Dance

The skyline gets the attention, but your story is the whole day. These frames come from weddings we’ve photographed along the Jersey City waterfront and nearby, and they’re the moments we plan your Hudson House day around.

The moments in between

NYC Skyline Wedding Photos Near Hudson House

Liberty State Park and the CRRNJ Terminal

A short drive from Port Liberté: open lawns facing One World Trade Center, and the 1889 Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal for a brick-and-clock-tower portrait. We recommend it. Plan about 45–60 minutes including the drive, and expect wind off the water, so bring hairpins and a veil weight. We’ll use the breeze for veil-in-motion portraits.

Golden hour and blue hour

The sun sets behind New Jersey, so at golden hour it lights the Manhattan skyline from the front instead of leaving it flat or hazy. About 15–30 minutes after sunset the city lights come on, and we light you so you and the skyline are both sharp. If it rains, Hudson House’s floor-to-ceiling windows keep the view in your photos.

The Grounds or Indoors: Choosing Your Hudson House Ceremony

The Grounds

Vows on the waterfront with the skyline behind you. The light outdoors is soft and open. The wind off the water is real, so we plan the veil, hair and an indoor backup with you in advance.

Indoors

The Grand Ballroom (up to 400 guests) and the Hudson Room (up to 225, with its own private terrace) both host ceremonies with the skyline through the glass. It’s the weather-proof choice, and at an evening ceremony the city lights become part of the backdrop.

Planning ahead

Planning Your Hudson House Wedding Timeline

The most common mistake at a waterfront venue is planning portraits by the clock instead of the sunset. Check your date’s sunset first: it comes as early as about 4:30 pm in December and as late as about 8:30 pm in late June. Here’s a sample day. We build yours with you, so there’s time for everything.

  1. Getting ready and details: in the Hudson House Wedding Suite or at your hotel.
  2. First look (10–15 min): private, before the crowds.
  3. Couple and wedding party portraits on the Grounds (30 min).
  4. Liberty State Park and the CRRNJ Terminal (45–60 min, including the drive).
  5. Family formals (20–30 min): from a list we build together, so nobody hunts for family at cocktail hour.
  6. Ceremony: on the Grounds or indoors.
  7. Cocktail hour: we cover your guests, and the room before doors open.
  8. Reception: grand entrance, first dance, toasts.
  9. Golden hour (10 min): about 20 minutes before sunset, a short step out to the waterfront.
  10. Blue hour or the Stork Club rooftop (10 min): about 15–30 minutes after sunset, when the city lights come on.

On a summer date, steps 3–5 fit before the ceremony and golden hour falls during the reception. On a winter date, sunset can come before the ceremony, so the skyline portraits move earlier.

Why one team

One Team for Your Photography and Film at Hudson House

At a Jersey City waterfront wedding, the best light lasts minutes. A photographer from one company and a videographer from another will compete for it. We’re one team under one creative direction: photography, cinematography and photo booth.

At every wedding, Mario or I lead your photography personally. Our videographers are MC Productions’ own staff, not freelancers booked for the date. All-day photo and film coverage means 4+ professionals, so the dance floor and the toasts are covered at the same time, even in a Grand Ballroom of up to 400 guests.

Hudson House Wedding Photography & Video FAQ

Have you photographed weddings at Hudson House?

Yes. MC Productions has photographed and filmed many celebrations at Hudson House in Jersey City, from ceremonies on the waterfront Grounds to Grand Ballroom receptions and the Stork Club rooftop.

Golden hour, just before sunset, when the sun behind Jersey City lights the Manhattan skyline from the front. Then blue hour, about 15–30 minutes after sunset, when the city lights come on. We build both into your timeline.

Yes, and we recommend it. Liberty State Park is a short drive from Hudson House, with lawns facing lower Manhattan and the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal. Plan about 45–60 minutes, including the drive.

Expect some wind, since Hudson House and Liberty State Park both sit on open water facing the skyline. We plan the veil and hair with you and use the wind for movement in your portraits. If it rains, we move portraits to the floor-to-ceiling windows, so the skyline stays in your photos.

Yes. We plan a few minutes of portraits on the open-air rooftop with the city lights behind you, and we cover the after-party when it’s within your coverage hours.

For all-day photo and video coverage, expect 4+ professionals from one coordinated MC Productions team.

Coverage is built around the hours your day needs. Our starting investment is on our wedding investment page, and we’re happy to walk you through options for your date.
